The Art of Illusion

I was at a concert last night, and they actually had pictures of Obama on the large screen, to which the audience screamed in delight. I thought to myself, "Never has somebody done so little, but been perceived to have accomplished so much". Perception can be a powerful illusion.

I am a fan of magic, and watch a show called "Mindfreak". The show is about the illusions of Criss Angel, and I must say that he is an extraordinary magician. So much so in fact that I have accused him of being possessed by the devil…joking of course.

What I enjoy most about Criss Angel is his ability to alter my perspective on reality. His illusions cause me to think differently. As is the duality of life, I have also hated not knowing how he performed these illusions, leaving me "mindfreaked".

Left to my own devices, I may never have figured out how these illusions were performed. I would have likely just continued to pseudo believe in my altered reality, never really knowing perception from reality. Then along comes the Masked Magician.

The Masked Magician is every magician's nightmare, because on his show he exposes the tricks that magician's use to perform illusions. And though there is still art in performing the "trompe l'oeil", the Masked Magician restores reality for the viewer. He shows you that you are not as dumb as you think, and that magicians are just very clever people, playing with your mind.

Once the Masked Magician reveals how an illusion is performed, you can actually feel your mind expand. After watching one episode of Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed, you may never look at illusions the same. And that goes for Obama's political illusions as well.

Obama has enjoyed performing illusions on the political scene for quite some time, but he finally "got his own show" in the last two years. You don't become a master political illusionist and get your own show, unless you have invested quite a lot of time in your craft.

Take for example Obama's record. It is a total illusion. As I and others have documented, there are no accomplishments. Just "ok" speeches from time to time. However with a slight tweak here and there, a 'community organizer' can become a civic leader. Slow, deliberate speech that says nothing, can be perceived as having enormous substance and impact. A record of accomplishing nothing can be perceived as the ability to accomplish anything.

Let's examine a few more illusions that The Great ObamaCon performed while running for president:
  • Public financing is for me
  • I don't have terrorist friends
  • Terrorists are just university professors
  • I'm not Muslim, I'm a Christian
  • I'm a Christian (no this is not redundant!)
  • My church is not racist
  • I loved my grandma, I'm sad she's gone
  • Reverend "who?"
  • No Washington insiders for me
  • I really do have good ideas for America
  • My internet site – Now you see it, now you don't
  • Failed Bush policies of the last 8 years
  • Change we need
  • Born in the USA
  • No terrorist donations accepted

And after the election, Obama added to his act with such illusions as:

  • The Clintons are not in charge
  • I think I do need Washington insiders
  • Bailouts are not for union votes
  • I'm really not a socialist [just my ideas are]
  • Change we need (reprise)
  • I really do have good ideas for America (reprise)
  • Trust me, I'm a lawyer

You can catch Obama's act in your town soon. But know that The Black Sphere and others are out there exposing his act.

That's my rant!

Ha! You were right, I did get some laughs :) Luckily, The One is not that great at magic, or so many wouldn't be seeing through him already (why, oh why, couldn't they see this before the election?) and many are having "buyer's remorse." Well, all I can say is: Don't Blame Me, I Voted For John McCain!

I hate to be prophetic, but I felt like this quote was relevant to the current path our nation is taking:

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."

That "hope" poster is freaky looking lol

Be prepared for the media to inform us that he cannot fulfill these promises because Bush made such a mess. Oh that should give us more reason to hate the mean and terrible Bush. Poor BHO cannot do his work as Messiah because first he has to dig us out of the ruins... maybe he should ask Pelosi, Frank and friends to come up with some more of their "brilliant ideas" to fix our broken country. we are all suffering greatly. gee I am so glad BHO is our prez even though all he knows how to do is stand around and look important, looks are important!

Greatest trick....getting elected
Next trick....getting them to drink more kool-aid before the effects wear off.

Kevin~Great analogy. I fear that the illusion will not wear off however because the media will continue to help him pull off his fabricated feats for entire time he is in office. For reasons which are unknown to me the media really invested in Barry.

I can't believe the cover-ups that are taking place.

Washington's corruption is becoming increasingly clear to people like us but unfortunately the Obama acolytes will never understand that they have been played. I guess ignorance is bliss.

It is mind-boggling that conservatives (which you are plainly not, but you've adopted that mantle) can't see, after the worst presidency in American history, that not only have people rejected your ideas (to the extent you have any), but that those ideas have shown themselves to be patently wrong/unworkable/counter-productive/dangerous. Facts don't get in the way with you, do they? Your adoption of some of the more absurd and/or demonstrably false ideas (he's a Muslim, he's a socialist, he's place of birth, even that stupid jab about lawyers) belie a lack of good sense, along with a rabid kind of partisanship that gets i the way of whatever capability you have to make good judgments. Given you're presumed vote for McCain/Palin (talk about dangerously unqualified!) your sense o judgment is questionable, to be generous. It's really sad to see a black man suckered in by the party of racists, biggots, and the Southern Strategy. It's like a Jew voting for the NAZI party. Sad, sad, sad.

Hey Anon, love to have the Lib point of view on here! Check the history of your party, and you will see that it is the Democrats who are the oppressors. I know you won't dig into this, but I will bet you publicly that I can make the case for being Republican and showcase your stupidity simultaneously. Reveal yourself, and let's have an honest debate. I know you won't change, but at least I can 'out' your ignorance. And I mean this with all due respect.

By the way, presenting a birth certificate is a fairly easy thing to do, so why won't he? Principle?

And you are right, he is not socialist...he is communist. I stand corrected.

Kevin,
good article about hypnosis. I ran across this article on Pres.-elect Obama use of hypnosis techniques during his speeches. It is kinda of long, but there is some validity to its theory, which is evident from the results of the election. Rose-Bud

I must disagree with the commentor who said Obama is not a great magician. He has shown himself to be an expert in misdirection and in creating illusions. He has created the illusion for millions of voters that he is a very intelligent, highly motivated producer, when if you observe his history correctly you realize that he is somewhat highly educated but not very intelligent (very bright people do not get taken in by Marxism). He is somewhat motivated to seize quick victories but not very motivated to work the jobs he wins. For example, once he won a Senate seat he ceased to care about making/changing laws or to represent his constituency, content to vote present whenever a real decision was called for.

His greatest trick seems to be his ability to misdirect the attention of the audience. Look over there! He appoints moderates and conservatives to stop arguments that his policies will create an extreme socialist/Marxist climate in the U.S. over the next four years. Meanwhile he is appointing his Marxist cronies to positions that will leave them entrenched in our government for decades and these appointees will have the power to seriously harm our economy, defense system, foreign relations, etc.

Obama isn't very smart (he is wily and he is a thug) but he is one of the most dangerous people to ever achieve the office of POTUS. Over 60 million Americans voted for the celebrity candidate. We'll all get to see the show!

Zubata

Ever notice how the best masters of illusion have a host of accomplices? In this case they will be called "The Cabinet".

Anonymous said...

Excellent observation, Zubata! And Obama has TONS of accomplices!

I find the whole idea absolutely fascinating and Kevin described it very well. You have a person that has accomplished so very little and yet has reaped the rewards of someone who should have toiled for years to hold the highest seat in the land. It IS an illusion. Things are assumed, overlooked, or purposely inflated to seem more substantial than they really are. I despise Hilary but she said it best, "the only thing he has done is give a speech at the DNC". It's indicative of our culture; it's not about substance, it's about glamor and style. Does it look good? Well, it must be true. It's been coming for many years as our lifestyles and entertainment choices have changed drastically and this is the result. A neophyte senator with no background in actually governing wins a media fueled popularity contest back by hundreds of millions of dollars. Voila! You are the leader of the free world! We are not holding elections anymore, we are playing copy cat to American Idol. That, folks, is horrifying.
